Comfort in the Dentist's Chair If you suffer from dental anxiety or extreme discomfort, our practice can offer you procedures to provide you with relief. We offer nitrous oxide to help our patients to relax. To provide pain relief, a local anesthetic is administered in addition to the nitrous oxide. Utilizing this combination, you will be relaxed throughout your dental procedure. back to top
Gum Disease Prevention and Treatment Gum disease, if left untreated, can cause not only tooth loss, but also serious health issues throughout your body. Its main cause is bacterial plaque (the thin, sticky film that covers your teeth), but gum disease can also be caused by genetics, tobacco use, stress, medications, poor nutrition, and other factors. Red, swollen or bleeding gums, tooth sensitivity, and bad breath are warning signs of gum disease. These signs may indicate that you have the mildest form of gum disease, gingivitis. With professional treatment and good oral hygiene, gingivitis is reversible. To schedule a dental examination to survey for gum disease, call us today. back to top
Endodontic Therapy/ Root Canal Therapy Endodontic therapy, more commonly known as root canal treatment, is a procedure used to save an infected tooth. Root canal therapy has earned an unfair reputation as a painful procedure, but in reality the treatment tends to produce only mild postoperative discomfort. It is a valuable tool in avoiding the removal of a tooth. The procedure requires that one of our dentists drill a hole in the infected tooth, remove the infected pulp tissue (often referred to as a nerve), and seal the tooth with a crown. Dr. Shafiei can perform this procedure in a single visit.
Tooth Extraction There are several reasons why you and your dentist may decide that a tooth extraction is necessary. A tooth that is extensively decayed or in the advanced stages of gum disease may need to be pulled. A poorly positioned tooth (like an impacted wisdom tooth) or a tooth that is broken beyond repair may also need to be removed. If we cannot find an alternative to extraction, one of our dentists will use a local anesthetic to diminish any pain during the procedure. Your dentist will also discuss options of a bridge, implants or other restorative options to close the space left by the extracted tooth.
Dental Sealants Dental sealants can be used to protect teeth from decay. Generally, tooth sealants are placed on the teeth of children and teenagers, but adults’ teeth can also be sealed when needed. During the sealing process, a plastic coating is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth to act as a barrier against the bacteria generally left on teeth from plaque and food. Back teeth are usually targeted since their location makes them more difficult to properly clean. Call us today to have your or your child’s teeth evaluated for dental sealants.
Fluoride Treatments Fluoride is a natural element that helps to strengthen teeth and prevent tooth decay. Our practice recommends fluoride treatments for both children and adults. Children need the increased fluoride provided by in-office treatments to protect their vulnerable teeth from decay. Many adults erroneously think that they have outgrown the need for dentist-administered fluoride treatments, but we encourage adults to get fluoride treatments for the prevention of cervical root decay. The procedure for fluoride treatments is simple. Immediately following a cleaning, the treatments are administered with a tray filled with a fluoride gel, strengthening your teeth against decay.
